They are conjoined with ID Inside Design, a modern home furnishings group that’s on the other side of the interior breezeway from the more traditional, timeless, classic Martinpatrick3. I definitely get a Standard Hotel feel when I transitioned from Martinpatrick3 to ID Inside Design. They’ve got everything from sectionals to vases.

Both of these spectacular shops are a great addition to the North Loop/Warehouse District neighborhood of Minneapolis. Make sure to stop in and take a look (a long look, every time I thought I had all the photographs I wanted, I saw another random trinket), chat with the friendly staff, and walk away a more sophisticated, stylish man.

My close friends and those who read my Twitter updates know I’m a little obsessed with my shawl-collar cardigan. I wear it whenever I get the chance, which was very little until recently when it finally cooled down.

Anyway, a shawl cardigan is the type of garment I imagine wearing by a warm fire in a cabin out in the woods when the scenery all around is covered in snow as you drink a glass of Kentucky bourbon and perhaps even take puffs on a cigar (or better yet a pipe).

That being said, they look good in public, too. I wore mine to the mall in Lisbon and on the beach at sunset in Costa da Caparica.

They’re a replacement for a sportcoat and would look odd if you tried to wear it underneath one. The best ones are a little chunky and that’s all the better. Not everything you wear has to be fully fitted for it to be stylish. Wear cotton in the fall, wool in the winter, then go back to cotton in the spring.

Fall is definitely here and winter is around the corner.

What’re you supposed to wear on your feet when it’s cold? And what if there’s ice, snow, slush, and other stuff on the roads and sidewalks?

Boots, that’s what. And there are no better all-around day-in, day-out boots than the original “Indy” boot by Alden. Actually called the “405,” but made famous by Raiders of the Lost Ark (and every subsequent Indiana Jones film), these boots have enduring stylishness and are well-made so they’ll last a decade or more. You can find them in a variety of leathers, finishes, colors, and with various details. If you live in an area where you’re prone to encounter snow and slush, I’d recommend finding some sold with the commando sole and possibly made with shell cordovan leather.

If you live somewhere where that won’t be a problem, or you don’t expect to have much of a problem with ice, snow and slush, any model with the standard, double-thick sole will work just fine. ShoeMart.com (pictured) sells them in a variety of finishes, J.Crew sells them in an attractive dark brown, and of course you could have any local brick-and-mortar dealer who sells Alden shoes order them in (and you could probably specify details like the sole, type of leather, etc.).

Whatever specific model you choose, these will last for many years and will be a serious style asset at your disposal.

Strap one of these J.Crew nylon watch bands onto your watch. They come in both solids and stripes, and can make it feel like you’ve got a brand new timepiece on your wrist. I recommend the deep olive double-stripe (pictured), black double-stripe (which is nearly identical to the watch strap James Bond wore in Goldfinger) and collegiate green stripe. I took my watch to a jeweler and he put the band on for me for free. Once he takes the metal, leather, or canvas strap off your watch, you can switch out these nylon straps as often as you’d like by yourself.

But, I’ve been meaning to get serious about getting a good, thick-leathered, “going to last a lifetime” bag. Well Moore & Giles Inc. offer up just the solution with their Getaway Collection. M&G have deep roots in the USA, founded in 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia, they are dedicated to finding the best leathers in the world. They are all about the environment, they even state on their site that “WRATH ARCANE taken literally means ‘secret anger’, or ‘forgotten rage’. To us it means that people seem to have forgotten the fact that changing their environment for the better will change their lives for the better.” They also go on to say “We design clothes that both embody this idea and also demonstrate our minimalist approach to contemporary streetwear.”

I do love their minimalist designs. Started in 2006, keep an eye on these guys…

You decide (although Kanye is missing the very important highwater slacks).  If you just want the sweet white wing-tips for now, grab the Sneaky Steve’s at Moxsie. Very low-pro and could be worn with jeans.

I took a look at her designs and was utterly impressed. Annie received a BS in Apparel Design from the U of MN College of Design, so look out for this girl! She even has experience designing Junior’s and Men’s apparel for Target Corporation.

Annie recently launched on online store, All for Everyone, so you can get your paws on her fine textiles.

Burgandy/Navy Blue/Gold Tie from Brooks Brothers is unstoppable. Although it is summer and I am looking for lighter cotton ties, this will definitely be added to my ‘To Buy’ list. It has that rushmore, school uniform feel, but could be super fresh when paired with a navy blue blazer.
